Worldview Points: Human Depravity
"And I took hold of my concubine and cut her in pieces and sent her throughout the land of Israel's inheritance; for they have committed a lewd and disgraceful act in Israel."
Upon first appearances the passage provides a disturbing glance into the heinous action of a Levite man yet, with further study, you find that he was trying to shock the nation of Israel into recognizing their depravity as a rebellious nation. The nation of Israel, at this time, had what I call a "postmodern-esque" view of reality where, because there was no king in Israel, the people "did what was right in their own eyes" providing license for anarchy and degeneracy.
